Since 2016, Chief Will has been building an impressive resume chock full of big names like Blueface, French Montana, Rich the Kid, Famous Dex, Rubi Rose, and Kalan FrFr, among many others.
Will grew up in Crenshaw and cites having both parents during childhood as a big factor for him staying out of trouble. He credits his father for helping to give his life structure as well as the tools to take life by the horns and make what he wanted from it.
“I wanted to work for myself,” Will said in a recent interview. “Having as much structure as I did coming up, I wanted to be able to make my own decisions and take my life into my own hands.”
This structure and a relentless work ethic lead him to working with fellow Cali natives Nipsey Hussle and Mustard. The two connected on Instagram and had been going back and forth for some time before working together.
“He had been admiring my work, and invited me to be his personal photographer/videographer during his time at the super bowl. I spent the majority of that year filling that role in all his creative endeavors,” he explained.
One moment that he really cherishes was working with both artists during a studio session which occurred near the time of Hussle’s death.
“Nothing beats that night at the studio between DJ Mustard and Nipsey. Just being there first had to capture that was amazing. Mustard had been trying to connect with Nip for a minute and so for me to be there was just surreal timing,” he said.
Looking toward the future, the young visual artist has more projects on the way and has no plans of stopping any time soon. You can peep some of his work below.
