Interview: Independent Artist Gino Haze Talks New Music and “Ur Favorite Song” Video

Gino Haze is an independent artist who’s definitely versatile and skilled at making music. He knew he wanted to pursue a career in music since he was young, and truly decided to commit to it when he realized that life is what you make it. With some of his main influences being Jay Z and Charlie Wilson, Gino Haze makes music that is distinct, creative, and can be described as in his own lane.

When asked about what message he hopes to spread in his music, Gino responded: “I hope my fans take away that it’s okay to be on your own time but remember the mission is to level up.”

Gino Haze has been consistent in putting out music, with his previous visual “I Try” released just a couple of months ago and already has garnered impressive numbers. As of date, the “I Try” video has been viewed over 12,000 times on YouTube and streamed more than 143,000 times on Spotify.

Now, Gino is back with another video — sharing the exciting effort, “Ur Favorite Song.” The Los Angeles via Chicago artist displays his versatility in the new single and visual, while maintaining an upbeat vibe that matches the overall theme of the song.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?
I’m from Los Angeles, CA. Inglewood section but I don’t bang lol. Also, by way of Chicago, IL.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?
My artist name is Gino Haze, my real name is Travis Gino “Gino Haze” Wilson II. I got my name from hustling. Period.

At what point in your life did you decide to pursue a career in music?
I decided I wanted to do music around 18. That’s when I was like, life is really whatever I make it. 

Has your upbringing played a role in shaping who you are and defining your sound today? If so, how?
My upbringing brought me awareness of the culture at a young age. It’s a good and bad thing cause I’m set in the way they did it. And not really impressed by a lot of new shit. 

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?
I’ll just say my sound covers all bases of true hip hop music. 

What ultimately inspired you to dedicate yourself to a music career?

Idk, the life choose me. 

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?
I feel like I can lead the younger generation in a better direction with finances, responsibilities and owning up to being a man. 

Do you have any hobbies outside of music? What do you do to stay creative?
Yeah, I like to draw. People don’t know that drawing is very therapeutic.

Who are some of your main musical influences?
Jay Z and Charlie Wilson.

What are some of your music career goals for the future?
I want a Grammy and a BET award.

Tell us about the project that you are promoting. What is it about? Is it a single or EP? Also, what is the name of the last project you released?
I’m releasing a self-titled EP, which I got the idea from Kendrick Lamar. I just want to introduce myself to those that don’t know me and re-introduce myself to those who knew me.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.
What’s next for me is another tape, more visuals and hopefully the world can open up so I can touch the people.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music?
I hope my fans take away that it’s okay to be on your own time but remember the mission is to level up.
