Small Talk is the absolute worst. From running into acquaintances you hardly know to former friends, or even exes, the thought of drumming up probing questions to someone I don’t care about is repulsive. Although it is a good time to subtly let the person you’re conversing with you’re doing better than them, I still rather swallow a jean jacket.
California emcee Xavier’s second solo release is centered around this exact premise. The west coast emcee spits about a top we can all relate to. Awkward conversations at parties with people who you might never see again. The top floor emcee boasts his plans of becoming such a superstar that people won’t have to ask any more rhetorical questions, they’ll already know. Production provided by Missouri’s own Stones Neighbor finds Xavier flowing effortlessly over spacey synths on the feel good record. With the album on the way this song serves as a great appetizer for the budding newcomer as he looks to stake his claim among California’s next spitters that demand your attention.
