The year of 2020 has been all Blxst, and rightfully so. The Los Angeles native has been on fire for two years straight actually, and he’s not done yet. This summer he has released some of the best music in the game. From arguably the song of the summer in “Slip & Slide” where he teamed up with 1TakeJay. Followed with the lead single off this project, “Overrated”. As well as a Soundcloud exclusive in “Forever Humble”. There are visuals for all three tracks on YouTube. A Blxst solo project has been highly anticipated, and after having the summer on smash going into the fall season, No Love Lost is finally here.
No Love Lost is an eight track EP, that includes the lead single “Overrated” as well as the track “Hurt”, that was released back in 2019. Six fresh tracks in roughly 15 minutes of listening. The introduction track is “No Love Lost”, which like all of the songs on this project, are produced by Blxst himself. The music video was released on Friday as well. It acts as the second part of the story where the music video for “Overrated” left off. On “Wrong or Right”, an instant standout track, he really solidified the direction of the project. From that moment on you understood that this was going to be a more slowed down R&B approach. “Gang Slide” consists of a brilliant west coast instrumental and a catchy hook. The only problem argued is that the track wasn’t long enough. Tracks 5-7, Blxst really shows off his versatility as both a recording artist and as a producer. “Be Alone” shows exquisite storytelling, and it goes perfectly with the theme of the project. On “Just Say’N” Blxst gives us different flows and cadences of his singing voice.
This project has a story, and is as coherent as it gets. This was a little bit different than his prestigious Sixtape-EP with Bino Rideaux, but doesn’t discredit this complete piece of work. We heard Blxst in his own element. There’s not too many artists that have the same hands-on approach where they both write their own music, as well as orchestrate the instrumentals. This just makes this project that much more special. No Love Lost is out now on all streaming platforms.
