Amidst all the chaos Jay Worthy is starting his decade with a bang, releasing his collaborative project with producer Harry Fraud “Eat When You’re Hungry Sleep When You’re Tired”. Harry Fraud is known for his ethereal, soulful production that have blessed local legends like Max B to internet sensations such as Playboi Carti. The Brooklyn-born producer teaming up with Compton’s very own Jay Worthy may come as a surprise to many, but the combination of Harry Fraud’s passion and gift in sampling and Jay Worthy’s knowledge and love of oldie tunes and record-digging was not a question of if, but when.
The seven track project is short and precise, showcasing the very best of Worthy’s rapping and Fraud’s beats, who paint a vivid picture of life on the west coast down to the album artwork. Featuring an incredible set of artists such as G Perico, Larry June and Guapdad 4000, their suave deliveries fit the overall sound of the project more than perfectly. On “Can’t Be Stopped” Worthy is joined by Larry June who both rap effortlessly over Fraud’s funky colorful instrumental. The album ends with the masterpiece that is “Ice Cold P Mix”, which is exactly what it sounds like, music for ice cold P’s. A surprising appearance from Band Gang Lonnie Bands is a clear highlight, he and Worthy waste no time getting groovy to the beat which almost sounds like it came straight from the disco era.
Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, there’s no reason to not dive in and get down to some of Jay Worthy’s best work yet! Listen below.
