Traditionally, if a person can overcome the bleak environment they were born into, that person is worth betting on to continue doing the impossible. So is true historically, for example, LeBron James of Akron, Ohio, Jay Z of Marcy projects in Brooklyn, and anyone who can make it out of places like Watts, California and Flint, Michigan. TruCarr, from Watts, CA is a testament to this theory. He’s been showing flashes of brilliance for years, establishing his name locally in the L.A. music scene. But it wasn’t until his viral hit “Outside” (1.2 million views currently) featuring SOBxRBE’s DaBoii was released four months ago, that he made a definitive statement. That statement being, he is destined to become a part of the lineage of successful artists to come out of Watts. His predecessors, Jay Rock, 03 Greedo, Daylyt and Glasses Malone all accomplished the impossible.
TruCarr’s pseudo southern drawl and crooning cadence, makes his appeal stretch far beyond just the west-coast market in comparison to his peers. Having been pictured in the studio with Blueface, releasing a single with BlueBucksClan and G Perico, he’s definitely on his way to more virals hits in the coming months.
Today, he brings us a Sleem Luciii directed visual for “Call It” produced by Cypress Moreno, Laudiano and featuring Flint, Michigan’s own RMC MIKE. The video takes place in front of the monument that is Hawkins House of Burgers in Watts surrounded by his entourage, and RMC Mike.
