The beautiful thing about Hip-Hop is how it can be a tool of therapy for both the listener, and the artists. If you break down what some of the better artists are saying, you can easily start to figure out the fact that putting down these thoughts on wax helps a lot of these musicians cope, and it’s what makes them most relatable. Hailing from Las Vegas, Jay Grindz does exactly this on his impressive new project, Traumatized.
Although the album is fairly short in terms of length–9 tracks, 25-minutes–the content is absolutely jam-packed. Infectiously rhyming about many topics including growing up in the struggle, making it out and everything in between, Grindz without a question establishes himself as a qualified lyricists on records like, “Trippin,” while proving his flow is just as good as anybodies on the posse cut, “Rotation,” which features SloanWolf, Cash Bandicoot and fellow Nevadan, Big Homie Stone going back and forth with Grindz. Another standout record happens to be, “Pain.” Serving as the project’s lead single, “Pain,” is a well-written record about pushing through dark emotions that sums up what much of this album is about.
