When it comes to Hip-Hop, New York City is one of the most storied cities in the genre. Not even mentioning the fact of it being the birthplace, Hip-Hop and New York have always had a special bond, but one thing they’re especially known for is their affinity for collectives. Boasting legendary groups like A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The L.O.X. and GS9 just to name a few, NYC has always had a stronghold on that area of the genre. So, it should be no surprise when I tell you that they have another one. Comprised of five members, New York collective, thebaremax drop off their effective new posse cut, Pulp.
Finishing up at 11-tracks, Pulp is an engaging album that does a great job at highlighting many of the individual qualities that help bring this group together. Whether it’s 5dgirl’s enchanting vocals, lamuse’s witty punchlines, or yeahCALEB’s overall musicality, the project does a great job at making sure no man or woman is left behind. As for standouts, in my opinion, the project is a smooth run with little-to-no-skips, but, “While You’re Ready,” has to be the one to be highlighted. Featuring lamuse and Bert Knox going back and forth with clever one-liners and swagger-filled cadences, this record right here is a great example of the chemistry that makes this group fun to listen to.
Take a listen to, Pulp below and get familiar with NYC’s newest collective.
