Growing up, I didn’t know much about the state of Maryland. Actually, I didn’t even realize that Baltimore was in Maryland until I was about nine or ten, but that’s for another day. My ignorance aside, Maryland has been home to some of my favorite athletes ever: Len Bias, Carmelo Anthony, Steve Francis. The list goes on. Further more, I found out that rappers that I liked, including Logic & Oddisee, were also from Maryland and the city carried more weight than I previously thought. Hoping to continue that tradition, native rapper Olumide drops off the video for his single, “Passion.”
Finding it’s legs as a post-release single from Olumide’s 2019 project, Slowed Down & Smoked Up, “Passion” is an engaging record that sees the Maryland native utilizing the Chopped & Screwed method–as he did with the rest of the project–in such an intriguing manner that it’s no wonder he used it for the whole body. As for the video, directed by MachinaMedia, it takes place in dimly lit room with plenty of stimulating accessories, where he’s surrounded by a host of beautiful women. Using the scenery to drive home the record, the video is without a doubt one of the best of the week.
