If you listen to Hip-Hop fans talk for more than 5-minutes, most of them will try and convince you that creative lyrical contributions are a thing of the past–and, confusingly, that Rich Gang is the best duo since OutKast. While one of those things is quite possibly true, if you pulled your head out of your ass for long enough, you’d know it couldn’t honestly be the former. With so many creative lyricists out right now, it’s irks me that so many people are still willing to die on this hill, but we move along regardless. One artist who has basically embodied lyricism in his music has been Oceanside, San Diego native, Dialect, and he proves it on his engaging new EP, Smoking In Tha Rain.
Produced in it’s entirety by rising beat-maker, ROK$, the 5-song project follows a formula, and both ROK$ and Dialect stick to the plan. Devising a body of chilling, bone-rattling production to go alongside the So-Cal native’s silver tongue, ROK$ definitely plays a huge role in the crafting of this project. But still, undoubtably, the star of the show is Oceanside’s favorite son. Meshing clever one-liners, double-entendres and melodic prowess with his signature flow, Dialect takes a huge step forward on this project and should be officially on notice.
Take a listen to the project below and be sure to follow the ascension of Dialect.
