Virginia has been the talk of the Hip-Hop world this week as the industry watched MTV finally honor one of their most iconic natives, Missy Elliot. While she’s most definitely the brightest, she’s not the only star from the area — hello, Pharrell — and the city has even been showcasing a new wave of talent. Spearheading that wave is native rapper, DANVHEFNER, who after building a bit of a buzz with his last few releases, drops his best release to date in, Vivacious.
Clocking in at 5 songs and 10-minutes, the EP thrives on its’ efficiency. Instead of delivering 5 drawn out songs — or even 5, very short, pointless ones — Dan utilizes every single minute to showcase his cohesive sound. On, “I Didn’t Ask For This,” he finds a cadence that serves him better than any I’ve heard thus far, while on, “Be By Me” he proves just how much better he’s gotten melodically.
In all, the sound of Vivacious is different than what we’ve come to expect from Dan. Despite this, it’s one of, if not his best, project to date, as it highlights some of the glaring qualities that could make him a star in his own right.
