Larry June season is in full affect and he’s celebrating by dropping off his latest EP “Trap Larry” weeks after his last album. If “The Port of San Francisco” was Dr. Jekyll, “Trap Larry” is Mr. Hyde. Although trap instrumentals are nothing new to Larry, this project feels more refined and focused right from the get go. All the beats are certified bangers, as he combines his arsenal of smooth fluid flows with the bustling instrumentals. The titular track “Trap Larry” is a prime example, constantly changing his flow to adapt to the mind-numbing piano keys of Lex Luger. On “Orange Man” the deep bass that kicks off the song feels like a slap to the face as Larry pays homage to a classic, adding his own flair with fantastic lines such as “She like ‘I fucked Larry June back in the day’, no you didn’t”. As Larry June continues to solidify himself as a heavyweight in the west coast, we’re looking forward for more fruit that Larry June season bears.
