Los Angeles-bred Maxo is an expert at evoking the audiences emotions. Conveying nostalgia through his reminiscent words. Narrating his memories of the past in a fully aware present mindset. This is the skill of a lasting artist opposed to a short-lived trend.
“In My Penny’s” is a spot on display of his potent lyrics over soulful production from Swarvy. Reflecting on growing up but never allowing it to slow him down. Staying focused on the road ahead and the importance behind his music. His family and the people around him, as much as for his fans. While trying to stay positive through seeing his own brothers locked up. He proclaims “he’ll never fold”.
The visual is directed and edited remarkably. Direction from Devlin Claro Resetar captures Maxo in his room on the phone to delivering his bars in various lighting. All fitting the reminiscent and genuine aesthetic of the record itself. Conceptually taking advantage of the dark and light, while implementing various images that catch the viewers eye throughout. An edit that portrays barbershop reference portraits is my favorite part of the visual.
His first full length EP Lil Big Man drops under Def Jam Records on March 15th. This comes almost a year after his incredible EP, Smile. Expect to hear nothing less than greatness on the upcoming project. Maxo drops nothing but high quality.
