Bijan‘s latest project ‘Above Money’ is subsequently right on the money. The Bay to LA rapper/producer is stepping from behind the boards into the booth. With previous production credits on an array of Bay Area staples’ artist such as Philthy Rich, Messy Marv, Keak Da Sneak and more. He is now taking matters into his own hands and releasing his own bangers on ‘Above Money’.
The project kicks off with an ode to investing in yourself and standing for something titled “$old All My Yeezys” in which he proclaims he sold all his Yeezys to Flight Club and got went to Blue Moon to get iced up. Flight Club is the infamous shoe store on Fairfax where celebrity’s flock to buy the dopest new shoes; it seems like he sold his Yeezys because he doesn’t rock with Kanye anymore because of his recent divisive political stances, he rather use the money to purchase some jewelry for himself and support the family. It’s a dope way to convey his maturity and #wokeness while still making a banger. “808 (Make It Shake)” is the perfect ride around music to vibe to, the bass heavy production leads the way and his sticky melody make for a perfect pairing. What’s most impressive about the project is he makes a Beastie Boys sample sound great, on the single “Ca$h Money”, which turns out to be my personal favorite song ironically because “Brass Monkey” might be my least favorite song ever.
It’s expected that the production on a producer’s project is going to be stellar and this definitely does not disappoint. The song “No Ray Bans” has one of the best beats I’ve heard in some time coupled with Bijan’s many flows and extraordinary hook. The best song on the project however is “Flawless” the moody new wave R&B track might just end up on your late night playlist as well as Spotify and Apple Music’s best new hip hop playlists. Producers on the album include Shonuff, Rob Savage, Persian BEATZ. Also, since it’s Superbowl Sunday, be sure to check out his latest release “No Passes” featuring Rayven Justice. While newcomers rarely hit their target, Bijan plays his role perfectly like Tom Brady in fourth quarter and lands right above the money.
