DJ Quik’s “Black Friday”

While Compton has definitely been in the house this past year, from Kendrick Lamar‘s untitled. to The Game‘s non-stop jabs at Meek Mill, you have to respect the OGs, including DJ Quik. Quik, who earlier this year collaborated with Compton powerhouse Problem reminds us black Friday has come early this year, from the Rosecrans legend’s new single. A soulful track that brings back the nostalgia of a sample of the records I used to collect from Norwalk Records, Quik (aka David Blake) touches something that has been prominent in the media lately: race relations. With the increase of police brutality and emergence of black lives, Blake’s emotions are reminiscent of his early work (including this dedication to his partna’ Mausberg).

Let the story behind it explain it for itself:

I wrote this piece because I don’t like the tumultuous air surrounding Black People. Someone had to speak up for the African American community on this Black Friday and I elect Me to do so. #blacklivesmatter“-DJ Quik
