After what seemed like forever, Ty Dolla $ign finally blessed us with “Free TC” today.
“I called my album “FREE TC,” because I’m on a mission to free my brother TC. He’s been wrongly accused & by releasing this album, I want to raise awareness to the racial & social injustices & mass incarceration that’s going on in our country right now. This is more than just an album; it’s a movement.” says the R&B star on the title.
With skits on each track & a heavy influence of 90’s hip-hop & r&b accompained by Brandy on “LA” and Babyface on the almost-acousic “Solid“, Jagged Edge on the heaven-at-the-gates like “Straight Up“, and of course, the legendary R. Kelly on “Actress“.
There are also some modern day R&B star feature from the likes of Trey Songz (“Know Ya“) and up and coming Sevyn Streeter (“Credit“) (who was just on The Game’s Documentary 2). He also reminds us of where he came from, LA’s South Central with features from YG, TeeCee4800 & Joe Moses on “Only Right“, and ready for the turn up on “Blase“. However, a more softer Ty shows on the very inspiring “Guard Down” with the legendary Kanye West and Diddy (or whatever he goes by these days).
Overall, Free TC is a great album, and it was well worth the wait. Each track is a chapter in the book that is Ty$ is reading to us; every track is heartfelt and there are a range of emotions as well as hard work put into each one. The title itself conveys a great message and the content on the album is amazing. Thank you, Ty$!
