With Dr. Dre‘s latest album Compton dropping today, you might have seen some names, and heard some voices you’ve never heard before. And since we’re in the information age, I know you want to know who these relatively obscure artists are. Everyone who follows rap knows who Eminem, The Game, Kendrick, Snoop, Xzibit, Ice Cube and Marsha Ambrosis of Floetry are. But what about Anderson Paak, King Mez, Justus, Jon Connor, BJ The Chicago Kid, Asia Bryant, Cold187um, and Candice Pillay? Who are these artists and why were they selected by hip-hop’s best producer of all time to participate on this legendary project that is Compton by Dr. Dre, well I thought I’d do some digging and find out. I will be posting each artist separately, first up is Justus.
Justus:
His real name is Justin Mohrle, and his emcee name used to be Love, JT. He is a white rapper from Garland, Texas who Dr. Dre reportedly signed early this year. His past material has mostly been scrubbed from the internet in hopes of starting new and fresh under the Justus moniker and what better way to get some buzz then appearing on and writing the majority of Dr. Dre’s new album. Justus has yet to release any music under his new emcee name, but I’m sure now that Dre got the Straight Outta Compton movie and this album out of the way, that will change soon. You can read more about him in this great Consequence of Sound piece. And you can follow him on Twitter here. Will he be the next Eminem, or Knoc-Turn’al? Only time will tell.
