AD “Blue” Video

AD “Blue” Video

Blue” is the new single from Compton native, AD from his latest mixtape, Blue:89. At first listen, the song will give you the blues, with a very dark piano backdrop and lyrics pertaining to the struggle that is he has and is currently going through. While walking down a dimly lit street, he talks about the downsides of the much glorified ‘hood lifestyle, giving us another perspective rarely shown in rap music; such as reflecting on his grandmother’s chemotherapy, brother’s incarceration and growing up broke. In the midst of all of these events, he blames many of it on himself, including his brother’s incarceration (“and the way I feel is my fault/cause he going off the same shit that i taught”). Then, as everything seems to go downhill, the song transitions into what seems to be a heavily influenced DJ Quik or Battlecat 90s track, produced by up-and-coming producers Pharomazan and Larry Jayy. The video transitions as well, showcasing a brighter side of the ‘hood lifestyle, as AD and his homies at a “backyard boogie” surrounded by Hennessy and BLUE rags. Needless to say, I was very impressed, and can’t wait to hear what’s next. Very dope track. – Fatima
